The Atlanta Hawks are looking for more of an x-factor next season to play alongside their superstar Trae Young who just had an All-NBA type season. The Hawks would want a second star but failing that, getting a player of the caliber of T.J. Warren might help get them over the edge.

Warren has been an elite scorer in the league since his fourth season when he averaged 19.6 points per game. On top of that, he has the ability to heat up and can score large numbers of points in bunches. Can anyone forget how he played in the bubble for the Phoenix Suns?

Warren also has the added benefit of having played for Nate McMillan before when the two of them were with the Indiana Pacers in the 2019-20 season. Warren had several career highs including 19.8 points, 1.5 assists, and 1.2 steals per game in that season. McMillan knows how to extract the best out of the small forward.

There are issues with the Atlanta Hawks signing T.J. Warren.

For all the benefits that Warren can bring to the franchise, he has to be able to get onto the floor to be able to produce. This has been the issue for the seven-year veteran over his entire career. Warren has not played more than 67 games in a season.

In fact, over the past two seasons, he has played a grand total of four games. All of these games were played in the first part of the 2020-21 season and then he missed the entirety of the 2021-22 season with a foot injury.

The Hawks have had enough injury concerns over the past two seasons to last them for a long time. Obviously, Warren would have to show that he was fully healed and there was a minimal chance that he would re-injure his foot before the Hawks consider signing him.

However, with the free agency pool being reasonably shallow this season, Warren could be a tremendous addition for a reasonably low price. This is certainly a risk worth taking assuming he can pass the physical.
