The Atlanta Hawks are in need of a few pieces to take them from a mid-pack team where they were last season to back to the top which is where they belong. One of these moves needs to be to add a second star to help Trae Young out but the moves do not need to stop there.

The Hawks are reportedly interested in moving John Collins’ salary in order to create more room under the salary cap. While the Hawks’ ownership has expressed that they are willing to go into the luxury tax for the right player, making moves for the sake of making moves is not wise.

The Hawks have some moves they can make to be the masters of their own salary cap. They can choose to guarantee Danilo Gallinari or they could trade him to not cost the franchise $5.0 million should they waive him. Let’s take a look at the trade proposed by Dan Favale of Bleacher Report to get some hustle and clear up the cap sheet.

Do the Portland Trail Blazers help out the Atlanta Hawks?

The biggest question that needs to be asked here is are the Portland Trail Blazers willing to give up their top-10 pick. The Trail Blazers are trying to rebuild around Damian Lillard and picking at No. 7 in the draft is a decent place to start.

However. if the Trail Blazers believe that they can have two bites at the cherry, albeit a few picks further on, then they are a chance at agreeing to this deal. Pick No. 12 and Pick No. 16 may be getting too late in the draft for the Trail Blazers. However, it is crucial that they do this for the Thunder to take Gallinari’s salary.
