There are multiple benefits for the Atlanta Hawks in this trade.

While Kenrich Williams is not anywhere near as good on offense as Gallinari. That being said he adds a level of hustle to any team that he plays on. There is a reason that he has the nickname Kenny Hustle, he outworks almost any other player on the court.

It is not as though Williams can’t play offense. He has a solid mid-range game, can attack the hoop, and shoots the 3-ball at just under 35 percent for his career.  He is yet to play with a point guard like Young who has the ability to find an open man better than most in the league. Williams will have more space on offense than he has ever had in the past.

On the defensive end, he has the ability to take the best opposition wing player when he is on the court. His defense is based on effort rather than pure skill and this effort rubs off onto his teammates. When you see someone else putting in, losing skin diving on the floor, the competitive nature of NBA players means they want to give more when they see this, even if it is subconsciously.

However, what is even more beneficial to the Hawks is the $2.0 million final year of Williams’ deal. The Hawks can flip him for more assets or they can use the cap space provided by this deal to sign a player like Jalen Brunson in free agency. The possibilities are endless for the Atlanta Hawks
