The Atlanta Hawks have struggled for respect in NBA media circles for a long time. Trae Young finally received some well-deserved acclaim when he was voted to the All-NBA third-team this season. We called it early here at Soaring Down South, saying that he had an All-NBA type season with some good historical numbers as well.

Well, Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report has released his way-too-early power rankings and in almost a slap to the face to the Hawks, he has them in the 19th slot in the league. This is why I say that the disrespect has started early, they were the 16th-ranked team in the league last season and even before any summer moves are made, some of the NBA media has them slipping back.

It is almost as though the media has forgotten how hard it was for the Hawks to gain chemistry at the start of the season. They had so many players who could not participate in training camp due to their offseason procedures being delayed thanks to the Eastern Conference Finals finish last season. This is not to mention the Hawks making history by using the most players in a season.

The Atlanta Hawks need to use this snub as motivation

During the last offseason, the Hawks were talking about going to the next step. I mean, they made it to the Eastern Conference Finals and were knocked out after Young injured his ankle in a freak accident on the ref’s foot during the series.

As we all know it was not to be but they showed how dangerous they were towards the end of the season. They had injury issues in their front court from before the All-Star break all the way through until the middle of the first round of the playoffs.

They lost John Collins to multiple injuries before he came back to the lineup with basically one hand because they lost Clint Capela to that knee injury. This had a tremendous impact on the series. When both of these guys are healthy, this is a tough team to beat.

Bailey of Bleacher Report has the Hawks finishing in the ninth seed in the East which is the same as last season. However, the Hawks would have finished a lot higher if they had any sort of luck.
