The Atlanta Hawks lost their lead assistant coach Chris Jent as he decided to move to the Los Angeles Lakers. He has gone to the Lakers to be either the lead assistant or the associate head coach with Darvin Ham, their new head coach. This is a huge loss from the Hawks bench as Jent was the most experienced assistant to Nate McMillan.

Jent had stints at the Philadelphia 76ers, the Orlando Magic, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and Sacramento Kings, and then he spent the last five seasons with the Hawks. All up Jent has 15 years of experience in the NBA as an assistant or head coach.

He only had 18 games as the official head coach, during his third season in the league with the Orlando Magic. During these games, Jent had a 5-13 record which is by no means a measure of his talent as a coach. The Magic had fired Johnny Davis and gave Jent the final 18 games of the season.

The Atlanta Hawks are going to miss Chris Jent’s mind.

It seems that all of Jent’s coaching experience is during adversity. He took over the helm of the Hawks this season when McMillian had Covid-19. The problem is that most of the team had Covid-19 as well, meaning that Jent was coaching half an NBA team. The other half were G League call-ups.

Jent has a history of developing players who are under him. Arguably his greatest accomplishment is that of correcting the shooting technique of LeBron James during his time with the Cavaliers. That is a very impressive mark to leave on the best league in the world.

dark. Next. The Atlanta Hawks have one of the best assets to land a star

During his time with the Hawks, he has helped develop John Collins into a borderline star and taking the raw Trae Young and helping him to his first All-NBA selection. Jent has been a key piece in bringing the Hawks back from obscurity and will be missed greatly.
