Atlanta Hawks 2022-23 City Edition jerseys potentially leaked
We might have just gotten the first look at the Atlanta Hawks city edition jerseys for the 2022-23 season. The Hawks’ recent iterations of their city editions – which are updated yearly – have bounced between fan favorites to being outright disapproved of en masse by a very passionate fan base.
Their most recent version featured a “legacy yellow” base featuring the signature “torch red” Hawk with its wings outstretched across the chest.
They went 8-6 during the regular season in those uniforms. That tied with their all-white uniforms (which are no longer just worn at home) for the third-best winning percentage (.571) among their four sets.
Hopefully, they can have a better time in these new uniforms if they are official.
Potential new Atlanta Hawks City Edition jerseys revealed
Atlanta’s 2022 City Edition look was met with mixed reactions simply due to the color. The Hawks were trying to honor several past generations from 1968 with the number style to 1998 with the Hawks clutching a basketball in the logo. For all of the thought and detail that went into the look, it simply did not translate to any significant success on the court.
The record was reflected in their play leading fans to clamor for the 2021 “MLK” jerseys. Those jerseys saw the Hawks go a sterling 9-1 during the 2021 regular season and 3-2 in the postseason including the decisive Game 6 loss.
This new look, shared on the Hawks subreddit by u/ToyStoryRex97, also appears to make an attempt at capturing some nostalgia while blending in some new aesthetics.
"Updated picture of this season’s city edition from AtlantaHawks"
While we do not have any official breakdown of what each individual element means, it does appear as though there will be a return to a black base.
Gold, such as we saw in the “MLK” edition, will also apparently make a return. This time, it will serve as the trim for the arms and neck as well as run right alongside red stripes on either side of the jersey. The font and number styling both look like something from the late 60s or early 70s.
Of course, this is just an unofficial image. The uniform could look fairly different when worn and under live lighting. We also do not know just how the shorts will look. It could even be an entirely different look altogether for Trae Young and crew next season.
In the end, the Hawks’ performance in the uniform when on the court will go a lot further in regards to fans accepting them than how they look in concept form.
Fans might call it the greatest look ever as long as they rack up Ws.
