Goals for Atlanta Hawks superstar Trae Young No. 1) Lead the team to a high playoff seed.
The Hawks rode Young all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals in the 2010-21 season. On the way, he became the villain of Maddison Square Gardens when he took the game up to the New York Knicks, beating them in a manner that caused them a level of embarrassment.
Then the Hawks took out the Philadelphia 76ers in seven games before losing to the eventual champions, the Milwaukee Bucks, in six games. We will never know if the Hawks could have beaten the Bucks due to the ankle injury suffered by Young early in the series.
However, the Hawks lost and then expected to get back to the top of the standings again. They retained talent rather than moving forward and we know how that worked out. This is what prompted the Hawks reset which leads us to this season.
Even with Murray on board, it is going to be Young who determines how far this team can go. His goal is to get the highest seeding possible to get the easiest road through the playoffs. His ultimate goal is a championship and a high playoff seeding will benefit that.
