3 goals for new Atlanta Hawks star Dejounte Murray No. 1) Repeat as an All-Star
After making his first appearance at the mid-season spectacular, Dejounte Murray will want to make this an annual appearance. However, it is not a given that any player is awarded this honor as shown by Young being named an All-Star in his second season before missing out in his third. This was rectified last season but voters can be fickle.
It is easy to see why Murray made the team. He averaged 21.1 points, 9.2 assists, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.0 steals in 34.8 minutes per game. Murray was certainly the best player on the Spurs squad last season and was a well-deserved All-Star.
However, what does he need to do to repeat this honor? His role with the Hawks will be far different than it was with the Spurs, so is there a chance that his numbers will dip too far to be considered for the team?
This will depend on how he is used with the franchise. The coaching staff needs to ensure that Murray is active on the court when Young is on the floor and then is the leader when Young sits. If they can do this then Murray will have no problem averaging the numbers required and if the team is winning, that will help his case too.
