3 goals for the next Atlanta Hawks star Dejounte Murray
3 goals for new Atlanta Hawks star Dejounte Murray No. 3) Lead the league in steals again.
As mentioned earlier, Murray is a tremendous defender. His 2.0 steals per game led the NBA last season so it is a wonder that he was not named to another All-Defensive team. He only just beat Chris Paul of the Phoenix Suns who had 1.9 steals per game.
If Murray can lead the league in steals again, then the Hawks are going to be in a tremendous position to be back at the top of the Eastern Conference again. They had a 26th-ranked defense last season which was the main reason that they did not challenge for a direct playoff seed.
While Murray has the two starters mentioned earlier, he also has the two players who came back in the Kevin Huerter trade for the second unit. Maurice Harkless and Justin Holiday are going to help Murray shut down the opposing offense. On top of that, they have Onyeka Okongwu giving the Hawks second unit starter-level defense.
The Hawks have put together a really good squad to take on the 2022-23 season. If Murray can lead the league in steals then, with the offense that this squad promises to give, the Hawks are going to be very hard to stop.
