Goals for Atlanta Hawks big man Frank Kaminsky for the season No. 1) Not get the Gorgui Dieng treatment.

The former Hawks big man Gorgui Dieng was signed in the last offseason, probably to cover the loss of Onyeka Okongwu who was out with shoulder surgery. It was a signing, that if it had worked could have most certainly had playoff implications.

However, Dieng did not really work out. He fell out of the rotation, only playing junk-time minutes with the rookies and the deep bench players. When he hit the court there was almost a guarantee that he would take a 3-point shot. He hit the 3-ball at 42.6 percent last season.

Dieng could not even get on the court during the Hawks’ Covid-19 crisis where they did not have many players available. The problem was that his game style was not what the Hawks needed from the center position. He was a good defender but his offense did not gel with Young and the other guards.

Kaminsky is a much better offensive player, who has played with some of the best point guards in the league. He played with Kemba Walker in Charlotte and then Chris Paul in Phoenix. His ability to perform in both the pick and roll or the pick and pop will help this team.
