The Atlanta Hawks have recently announced open tryouts for their G League team the College Park Skyhawks. These tryouts are a chance for local talent to show their abilities in a higher-level setting than they otherwise would have access to.

This shows that there are many paths to the NBA. While the draft is the main one, in international leagues, and also the G League. Teams usually try to get the best levels of NBA talent as their two-way players and then build the rest of the squad around them.

This season the Skyhawks are being built around the likes of two-way players Chaundee Brown and Trent Forrest. The latter was signed earlier this offseason after playing two seasons with the Utah Jazz behind superstar Donovan Mitchell.

There is always a chance to make it to the Atlanta Hawks squad.

The Skyhawks squad is going to look very different from last season. Three of their mainstays from that team have all moved on. Justin Tillman is now with the Denver Nuggets G League squad and has signed an NBA contract which is exciting for the center.

They also no longer have Sharife Cooper after extending him a two-way offer sheet, having him sign it, and then waiving him. They also have lost Cat Barber who has taken his talents overseas where he will be getting a much better payday.

Still, the Hawks have their first-round pick from the most recent draft AJ Griffin who is slated to spend a large portion of the season in the G League to focus on development. They also have their second-round pick, Tyrese Martin whose role with the varsity squad is expected to be minimal.
