Ex-Atlanta Hawks wing is running out of chances to impress
With only one roster spot left for the Atlanta Hawks to fill, it is unlikely that they are going to make any moves before the season starts. However, it is extremely unlikely that they will invite Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot back to training camp. In fact, it seems very unlikely that Luwawu-Cabarrot will get a call to come back to the league at all.
He has such a topsy-turvy season where one game he was king of the court, hitting 3-balls like he was shelling peas. Then the next game he would blow open layups which had such an impact on the team’s momentum.
Luwawu-Cabarrot has had the opportunity to promote his game in EuroBasket but has failed to impress, In fact, he has probably hurt his cause to be fair. His play in the tournament has been less than stellar. As an NBA player, most international teams would have him as a starter. However, he cannot crack the French starting lineup, nor have a positive impact on the game.
Ex-Atlanta Hawks wing continues his poor form in EuroBasket.
Luwawu-Cabarrot has not promoted his case, especially with his play against the Slovenian national team. The skill which has always been a hallmark of Luwawu-Cabarrot’s game has been his defense. This was certainly not on display against Slovenia.
The French were taking on the last tournament winners and one of the best players in the world, Luka Doncic. The superstar collected the stat line of 47 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in just under 39 minutes.
Considering that the Slovenians only scored 98 points, if Luwawu-Cabarrot wanted to promote his case in this game then stopping Doncic would have done this. He was not able to do that, in fact, he played just under 13 minutes and scored only two points on 1-of-6 shooting. He again had a negative impact on the box score, going minus eight in this game.
In fact, the French lost by six points, which cemented them in the third seed in group B. However, this has not been thanks to Luwawu-Cabarrot.
