Atlanta Hawks season question #2) What do we want to become?

For an NBA team to be successful they need to have a clear goal in mind. In order to do this, they have to have a clear identity in mind that they want to get to. Then they have to have a path to do this. Asking themselves who they want to become without a clear path forward is folly.

In order for the Hawks to become a contender in the loaded Eastern Conference, they need to become a top-ten defense. This will be a tremendous improvement on their terrible effort last season. It will surely have them contending for a playoff spot at the very least.

Then you need to add that they want to become a team that moves the ball with multiple points of attack on offense. If you put the two of these goals together it is easy to see why they traded for Dejounte Murray.

Not only was he the youngest player names to an All-Defensive team but he led the league in steals as well. On top of that, he was also fourth in the league in assists per game behind Trae Young. The ball is certainly going to zip around on offense.
