3) Hawks undrafted rookie Tyson Etienne has got the moves.

At the beginning of the Summer, former Wichita State point guard Tyson Etienne was handed a tryout for the Hawks Summer League team as an undrafted rookie. Since then, he has impressed the Hawks front office brass and has earned himself a training camp deal. His work seems to have paid off in more ways than one.

On top of being the starting point guard for Team Black at the open practice today – perhaps indicating that he may be currying favor for a more permanent contract – Etienne also won the Hawks rookie talent show.

The team’s four rookies gave their best, most inspired performance of song and dance in front of an audience of their senior teammates and 7,000 entertained fans. Etienne, who was dressed in a costume that resembled a foot, emerged victorious.

Other than being a goofy instance of rookie hazing, this was a bonding activity that perfectly encapsulates the purpose of an open practice: to be an icebreaker among fans and players for a season that will likely come with a lot of heartbreak and stress.

Overall, the night of basketball and entertainment was a smashing success, and the Hawks, surrounded by high expectations, will hope it can be the first of many exciting moments at State Farm Arena this season.
