Mike Bothwell – G – Fordham – 6-foot-3 – 190lbs
Back to the guards for the Hawks and Fordham’s Mike Bothwell is experienced having just completed his sixth season averaging 17.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.8 assists. He shot 51.7% overall and 34.2% from deep.
A fifth-year senior, Bothwell closed out the regular season with a 35-point explosion on the road at Samford on February 25.
He averaged 13.0 points, 1.0 rebounds, and 1.0 steals in two NCAA Tournament games.
“Bothwell isn’t quite the level of prospect Slawson is,” writes Jam Hines of NBA Draft on March 17. “But will garner G League and overseas interest because of his shot creation ability and multi-level shotmaking.”
He may not be the same level of prospect as Slawson. But Bothwell is still a two-time All-Southern Conference selection and a two-time All-Souther Conference Tournament pick.
Bothwell is an experienced guard, though the question still remains just how useful a rookie guard would be to a Hawks team that figures to continue trying to compete. Nevertheless, there is a need behind Young and Murray with Holiday set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
As it stands, he is another player that is currently projected to go undrafted but could sneak into a late second-round pick or priority undrafted free agent with a good showing for the right team. It is just hard to ultimately see that being the Hawks.
That doesn’t mean the Hawks aren’t exploring their options.
