4 Hawks that improved their trade value in 2023
By Alex Murray
De’Andre Hunter, SF
De’Andre Hunter came out of college highly touted thanks to a big time performance in Virginia’s 2019 National Title victory. He was drafted fourth overall in 2019 by the Los Angeles Lakers before being traded twice in the span of a couple of weeks and eventually landing with the Atlanta Hawks. He was an instant contributor, but injuries during his first few years caused him to miss extended periods which stunted his growth.
This season he played a career-high 67 games, which is a pretty solid number by today’s NBA standards. The fourth-year man scored a career high 15.4 points per game while putting up a solid 46/35/83 shooting line to go with his strong defensive presence, which has always been his main calling card.
Hunter is a skilled scorer at three levels and he has the motor, length, and freakish athleticism to be a premier perimeter NBA defender. Atlanta signed him to a four-year, $95 million extension last October, so it seems the 25-year-old Hunter is part of their future plans, but if that should ever change, they will have no problem finding suitors on the trade market.
