In the vibrant city of Atlanta, the State Farm Arena stands tall as the home of the Atlanta Hawks. This NBA arena has undergone a remarkable transformation over the years, evolving into a premier sports and entertainment destination. From its humble beginnings as the Philips Arena to its current iteration, State Farm Arena has become a symbol of Atlanta’s rich culture and a hub for thrilling basketball action.

No matter what the numbers in the point column show, the fans always showed up to watch their favorite team play! The numbers fluctuated throughout the years of course.

The Hawks have a storied history that dates back to their inception in 1946 as the Buffalo Bisons. Over the years, the team underwent several relocations and name changes, including stints in Tri-Cities, Milwaukee, and St. Louis. Finally, in 1968, the franchise settled in Atlanta and adopted the name we know today. Despite only winning one championship in 1958, the Hawks have consistently showcased their talent and prowess on the court, earning 12 Division Titles.

From Philips Arena to State Farm Arena

State Farm Arena, previously known as Philips Arena, has been a cornerstone of the Hawks’ success and a beloved venue for fans. Originally opened in 1999, the arena underwent a significant transformation in 2018 when State Farm acquired the naming rights. The agreement, valued at $175 million, led to the birth of State Farm Arena, ushering in a new era for the team and the city. It features a whopping 19.050 seats, as well as 92 luxury suites, 9 party suites, and 1,866 club seats.

State Farm Arena boasts several unique features that set it apart from other NBA arenas. One standout characteristic is its exterior design, with angled steel columns supporting the roof that spell out “ATLANTA.” This distinctive feature not only adds a touch of architectural flair but also showcases the arena’s deep connection to the city.

Another remarkable aspect of State Farm Arena is its seating arrangement. Unlike traditional arenas with club seats and luxury boxes concentrated in the center, State Farm Arena opted for a more unconventional layout. The venue initially featured general admission seating on three sides, with club seats and luxury boxes on the remaining side.

However, renovations in 2018 transformed the arena, spreading premium seating throughout the venue and placing club seats on the lower decks.
