Atlanta Hawks-Toronto Raptors trade rumors have lingered

Unfortunately, these rumors have gone on too long and no traction has been made. While there are a fair bit of reasons for the Hawks to trade for the Raptors star, the lack of discussion or rumors combined with the potential asking price makes it seem like a deal won’t get done. While the Hawks front office will no doubt remain aggressive, this just seems like a swing-and-miss.

There was talk about the Raptors potentially “blowing it up” and that would have seemly opened the door for the Hawks to acquire Siakam, but that has not happened to this point. The Raptors fired Nick Nurse and hired Darko Rajaković in his place (who has no NBA head coaching experience).

They also lost their point guard Fred VanVleet to the Houston Rockets. With all that happening, it doesn’t appear the Raptors are in any position to make big progress next season. And with the young players they have such as Scottie Barnes and OG Anunoby, there was reason to believe the Raptors would hit the reset button. As disappointing as this may be for the Hawks, it appears Siakam will remain a Raptor, but maybe a trade does happen, nobody knows the future!

However, Atlanta is not going to stay inactive in trade discussions as they have most recently put Clint Capela on the trade block. It seems as if a deal with the Dallas Mavericks is looming on that front, but as for a Siakam deal, they seem less and less likely by the day.

The Hawks have constantly tried to retool and improve the roster this offseason, and the Siakam rumors we’re no exception, but as they say, “You can’t win them all.”
