The Atlanta Hawks are all but out on Jaylen Brown after it was reported that the Boston Celtics want four first-round draft picks for him, according to Jake Fischer. HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto followed up by reporting it “would be an all-in move”, and fans know the franchise doesn’t want to make that as they build around Jalen Johnson.

Brown is coming off the best season of his career. He averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.0 steal in 34.4 minutes per game. The 29-year-old led the Celtics to the playoffs without Jayson Tatum for the majority of the season as he recovered from a torn Achilles. Brown finished sixth in MVP voting and was Finals MVP in 2024. He is a superstar, and Boston is demanding a massive price to acquire him.

It felt like the door was open for Atlanta after the Giannis saga. The Celtics offered Brown in talks for the Greek Freak, but the Bucks took the Heat's offer. Now, Boston is listening to pitches, and several teams are bidding for the five-time All-Star. Sadly, the Hawks just don’t want to go all-in to make the deal.

Hawks can’t go all-in to acquire Jaylen Brown

Atlanta is building an exciting young roster. Jalen Johnson is a star at 24 years old. The Hawks have Dyson Daniels and Nickeil Alexander-Walker flanking him as a strong nucleus. Rookie Kingston Flemings figures to be added to that core. They are searching for a true alpha to make them a title contender, but paying a massive price for a 29-year-old Brown wouldn’t allow them to add the finishing pieces.

The Hawks didn’t get involved in the Giannis bidding because it would have forced them to go all in. They certainly aren’t doing it for Brown. Antetokounmpo is a top ten player in the world, while Brown is in the next tier down.

The Hawks want to upgrade their roster this summer. They were the only team to defeat the eventual champion New York Knicks more than once in the 2026 playoffs. Atlanta needs a center upgrade and must decide on Jonathan Kuminga’s future.

The Hawks will be linked to every big name that becomes available. They are just a piece or two away from being a serious contender. They want to build it up slowly, but the second apron era makes that difficult. Rosters get expensive quickly, and windows are shorter than ever. Don’t be surprised to see Atlanta push their chips in if the right deal comes along.

The Atlanta Hawks are out on Jaylen Brown after Jake Fischer reported the Boston Celtics are asking for four first-round draft picks for the five-time All-Star. Atlanta would have to trade matching salary and young talent to get the deal done. It is just too much for a player outside the top five in the world.

The Hawks will keep exploring the market. They want to build slowly, and the arrow is pointing up. Expect Onsi Saleh to keep nailing moves and improving their roster. He will be opportunistic, but trading for Brown just isn’t in the cards at the Celtics’ asking price.
