The Atlanta Hawks parted with Georges Niang, Terance Mann, the No. 22 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and a second-round pick in a three-team trade with the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets that landed Kristaps Porzingis, and we now have even more context and clarity.
Mann went to the Nets, while Niang, a Massachusetts native, is a Celtic.
The Hawks now have one pick in the 2025 draft, and HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto clarified just what picks the Hawks sent out and received in the deal.
“As part of the Kristaps Porzingis trade to the Atlanta Hawks, the Boston Celtics received a 2031 Cleveland Cavaliers second-round draft pick with Georges Niang,” Scotto reported on X on June 24. “In addition to Porzingis, Atlanta also received a 2026 least favorable second-round pick from Boston.”
The Hawks acquired the Cavs’ pick in the initial deal to bring Niang in along with Caris LeVert for De’Andre Hunter before the deadline.
The second-round pick is subject to a whole host of stipulations with 11 other teams involved.
“Less favorable of (i) BOS and (ii) more favorable of IND and MIA then other to MEM or to HOU [MEM can swap this pick for LAC; LAC then conveyed to HOU] (via MIA to IND; via MIL to MEM; via MEM swap of IND or MIA for BOS);” Real GM explains. “Most favorable of MIN, NYK, NOP and POR (via MIN to NYK; via NOP to POR to NOP; via POR to DET; via DET to BOS).”
Nets ‘coveted’ former Hawks veteran
This was not a spur of the moment decision for the Nets, either, who are set up well thanks to the Hawks.
“The Brooklyn Nets have coveted Terance Mann in the past,” Scotto posted, noting the Nets’ role as a facilitator in this deal. “Brooklyn now has five first-round picks (8, 19, 22, 26, 27) and the 36th pick.”
Mann likewise expressed his excitement about the move in a since-deleted tweet.
It is unclear why Mann deleted the post, but the deal cannot be completed until July 6 since he is being acquired into the Nets’ cap space. July 6 is the first day when teams are allowed to sign free agents to new contracts.
Mann is starting a three-year, $47 million contract. He averaged 9.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 30 appearances (one start) with the Hawks after the trade.
This past season was just the second time in Mann’s career that he has missed the playoffs.
There is a good chance he misses them with the Nets in 2025-26, too. Brooklyn finished 11 games out of the Play-In Tournament, where Mann scored 7 points total in two games with the Hawks this past season.
