Trae Young won’t be the only Atlanta Hawk headed to All-Star Weekend this year. On January 29, the NBA announced Daeqwon Plowden and Kevon Harris as selections for the G League Up Next Game at All-Star Weekend.

Plowden and Harris have played significant roles for the College Park Skyhawks – Atlanta’s G League affiliate – all season long. Plowden signed a two-way contract with the Hawks in late December. The 26-year-old rookie recently dropped 19 points in his NBA debut on January 15. He shot 7-for-8 from the field in an impressive win over the Chicago Bulls.

In the G League, Plowden has averaged 15.8 points across 12 regular-season appearances. He has shot 43.4% from the field, 34.5% from 3-point range, and 100.0% from the free-throw line. Plowden has taken on an important leadership role for a young Skyhawks team.

After his memorable debut against the Bulls, Plowden and fellow two-way standout Keaton Wallace rejoined the Skyhawks on the road the very next night. Plowden played 22 minutes and dropped 11 points just 24 hours after helping Atlanta earn a huge win.

Skyhawks head coach Steve Klei recently spoke with Soaring Down South about the humility and team-first mindset of Plowden and Wallace.

Two very humble people, two very hard-working people,” Klei said. “It was really cool to see the excitement that the entire group had because they were with us the next day after that Chicago game. The greatest part about it is they stepped into that Chicago game and did everything that they do here. Their roles didn’t change. They played their game, they played our game, and they had a lot of success. That was really cool to see.”

With injuries starting to pile up for Atlanta, the Hawks could turn to Plowden for more minutes moving forward.

Kevon Harris has had a breakout season in the G League

At 27 years old, Kevon Harris has broken out for the Skyhawks. After spending two years with the Orlando Magic, Harris joined Atlanta on a training-camp deal back in September. While he didn’t secure a spot on the final roster, the Georgia native has thrived for College Park.

In 13 regular-season outings, Harris has averaged 19.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.9 steals. The versatile shooting guard leads the Skyhawks in total points this season, and he is shooting 42.6% from three. Harris is posting career-best averages in points, rebounds, and steals.

Harris and Plowden have more than earned their invites to the G League Up Next Game. Their contributions have helped the Skyhawks to a top-five seed in the Eastern Conference. College Park currently sits just one game back of the No. 1 seed.

Hardcore Hawks fans will be tuned into the Harris-Plowden show on February 16 when the rising stars of the G League battle it out at All-Star Weekend.
