Coach purgatory is an awful place to be in today's NBA landscape. Luckily for the Hawks, this isn't a problem they've had to worry about in years, and they likely won't have to worry about it again for a long time.
Quin Snyder should, and likely will, sign an extension with the Atlanta Hawks this offseason. While discussing the recent extension J.B. Bickerstaff signed with the Detroit Pistons, NBA Insider Jake Fischer of The Stein Line shared some insight into what a potential long-term contract could look like:
“That’s the same ballpark we’re expecting to see for what sources say is a looming extension in Atlanta for Quin Snyder as well. It’s not just Mike Brown in New York commanding those kinds of figures; that has become the going rate for proven head coaches.”

Not many coaches in the league could've accomplished what Snyder did this past season. While the way their year ended was less than ideal, it didn't wipe out all the progress they made over the course of the season. If anything, it gave them more of a chip on their shoulder moving forward.
Atlanta has improved in every season Coach Snyder's been at the helm. They've also gone through multiple iterations of the roster, leaving no doubt in his ability to adapt on the fly. General Manager Onsi Saleh completed five in-season trades in 2025-26. Most coaches and teams would've folded, but the Hawks didn't.
Instead, they competed. They went on a miraculous late-season run, finishing with a 46-36 record and avoiding the Play-In Tournament for the first time in four years. The pieces that were added midseason played a major role in their turnaround; a true testament to the effectiveness of Snyder's respected offensive scheme.
CJ McCollum and Jonathan Kuminga were depended on in a major way once the postseason hit, building off of a strong finish to the regular season for both of them. McCollum, in particular, spoke highly of Snyder's ability to get them all connected during their March surge.

It's going to be an extraordinarily busy offseason, but not in the ways many would expect. Most, if not all, of their anticipated decisions are going to be internal. It'll be an extension-focused summer, barring an unexpected external splash, which isn't out of the picture either.
Ironically, outside of the obvious front office and coaching staff decisions, the biggest question marks will be centered around McCollum and Kuminga, who could both hit free agency this summer.
Hawks fans shouldn't have much doubt that they'll make the correct decisions, because if history is any indicator, Onsi Saleh and Quin Snyder know what they're doing. Those two will be leading the way for a long time, and it'll be set in stone once this inevitable extension is agreed upon.
