The Atlanta Hawks have won eight of their last 12 games, and Caris LeVert has been a big reason for it. The veteran swingman has given Atlanta a huge boost since joining the team at the February trade deadline.

Since becoming a Hawk, LeVert has averaged 14.8 points across 19 appearances off the bench. He is nailing a career-high 1.8 threes per game for Atlanta. Over their last 15 contests, the Hawks have scored the second-most bench points in the league with LeVert leading the charge as a microwave scorer and secondary playmaker.

LeVert will become a free agent this offseason, but he has already voiced a desire to resign with the Hawks. He recently spoke with HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto about his time in Atlanta and how he views the upcoming free agency.

“We’ll see. I love this situation that I’m in right now. I love this team,” LeVert told Scotto in an interview published on March 28. “The staff has welcomed me with open arms. I didn’t really know Quin (Snyder) previously before coming here. Obviously, I’ve admired his style from afar for a long time. Antonio (Lang), Ekpe Udoh, and Ron Nored on the staff I’ve had relationships with, so I feel pretty comfortable here. Like I always tell them, I’d love to re-sign here. My focus right now is the rest of the season and making the playoffs. It’s definitely something I’d want.”

Trae Young and Quin Snyder have shown love for LeVert and his production

LeVert has already earned plenty of appreciation from Hawks fans, players, and coaches. Trae Young and Quin Snyder both spoke to HoopsHype about Levert and his impact on the team so far. Snyder highlighted the 30-year-old vet’s impact on Atlanta’s locker room.

“He’s the kind of guy who makes your team better in the locker room,” Snyder said. “His ability to score is unique. I think that’s something for our team to have a secondary playmaker and scorer to go along with Trae Young. You’ve seen Caris fill that role, and he’s been efficient doing it.”

Levert’s veteran leadership and experience as an on-ball threat make him one of the most dangerous secondary ball handlers in basketball. In Brooklyn, LeVert played two playoff series for the Nets and averaged more than 20 points in each.

Ice Trae displayed great belief in LeVert’s skill set with his comments on the versatile bucket-getter.

“Caris has brought a big impact for us,” Young told HoopsHype. “He’s a great player and a smart player who brings a lot of scoring. Anytime you can add a guy who’s been in the league for a long time and who knows the little things that matter in NBA games, that’s important to have.”

The Hawks currently own the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference standings, and that means they could feasibly take on the Cleveland Cavaliers – the team that traded LeVert to Atlanta – in the first round of the playoffs. That specific matchup could certainly motivate LeVert to turn back the clock and explode for the Hawks in a first-round upset bid. Regardless, a LeVert-revenge storyline would add extra flavor to a series against the Cavs.

For now, LeVert is primarily focused on providing the Hawks’ young core with insight and leadership as the team continues to develop day by day.

“It’s about getting better every day and having them see the big picture and not get caught up in wins, losses, missed shots, and made shots,” Levert told HoopsHype. “It’s more about the process of getting better each day and each possession out on the floor while having your mind in the right atmosphere and not getting too consumed in the results.”

Over their last eight games of the regular season, the Hawks will look to maintain their 0.5-game lead on the Orlando Magic to host a 7-vs-8 play-in game at State Farm Arena. LeVert should continue to command Atlanta’s second unit moving forward.
