Terance Mann was perfect in his second game as a member of the Atlanta Hawks.
The 28-year-old guard finished with 12 points, going 4-for-4 from the floor including hitting all three of his looks from beyond the arc.
The Hawks acquired Mann in a trade with the Los Angeles Clippers. And with the Hawks’ decision to waive Bones Hyland, Mann’s success is paramount to assessing the Hawks’ return in a trade that cost them Bogdan Bogdanovic.
He has been overshadowed by fellow new arrivals Georges Niang and Caris LeVert. Niang scored 16 points in the trio’s Hawks debut against the Washington Wizards. LeVert followed suit with an 18-point effort against the Orlando Magic in their second game with their new team.
Mann had 4 points on 2-for-5 shooting with 3 assists and 1 rebound in that first outing. He had 2 boards and 1 dime in Game 2.
Mann’s two-year, $22 million contract is expiring.
A three-year, $37 million extension looms. But the former No. 48 overall pick of the 2019 NBA Draft has something with the Hawks that the Clippers simply could not offer: a fresh start. Time will tell if he will be able to secure a larger role more consistently too.

Terance Mann Plays Perfect When Hawks Involved
Mann’s effort against the Magic marked the second time this season he has connected on 100% of his shots from the floor.
Notably, the first time occurred against the Hawks with Mann finishing the game with 12 points.
Mann is now 2-0 in those games. He is also 2-0 against the Magic, having beaten them in November while still with the Clippers. His 12 points are his fourth-highest-scoring output of the campaign.
He has hit the mark three times now, with the other coming in a loss to the Chicago Bulls in January.
Mann’s teams have gone 5-2 when he has scored at least 12 points and 6-5 when he crosses the double-digit threshold this season. This time, Mann hit the 12-point mark quicker than he had at any point in the season coming in.
His production is only part of what he brings to the Hawks, though.
Mann’s experience operating as a lead ball handler is essential for a Hawks team that lost projected top backup PG Kobe Bufkin for the season due to a shoulder injury.
A similar season-ending ailment for Jalen Johnson further depleted the Hawks’ playmaking around Trae Young. Mann offers a proper backup for the four-time All-Star and someone who can operate just as easily – if not easier – off the ball.
Mann and Niang are both under contract for next season. LeVert is a free agent this offseason.
All three will likely be given every opportunity to prove they should be part of whatever plans the Hawks have moving forward.
