The Atlanta Hawks secured a monumental 130-129 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday, Mar. 25. All five starters scored in double figures, with three exceeding 20 points, as Atlanta improved to 41-32 just over two months after it fell five games below .500.
Led by a new wave of players who represent the future of Hawks basketball, Atlanta guaranteed its first .500 or better season since 2023. In turn, it proved the future has officially arrived.
In addition to improving to 41-32, Atlanta also strengthened its record to 20-16 on the road. As a result, it's guaranteed itself its best road record since 2016-17. If it simply wins a single one of its remaining five road games, then it'd finish above .500 away from home for the first time since 2015-16.
Compounded by the fact that the Hawks have already clinched their place in the Play-In Tournament and are No. 5 in the Eastern Conference standings, it's safe to call this a remarkable turnaround season.
Considering Atlanta parted with former franchise player Trae Young in January, it can't be overstated how impressive this run truly is. Not only have the Hawks turned things around after a streaky start to the season, but they've done so while enduring the type of change that typically sinks organizations.
The youth movement has been front and center, with the Hawks not only playing well since trading Young on Jan. 9, but bordering on dominant during that time.

En route to win No. 41, the new faces of the franchise poetically took center stage. 24-year-old forward Jalen Johnson turned in another performance worthy of All-NBA acclaim, tallying 27 points, 12 assists, and eight rebounds on 9-of-18 shooting.
27-year-old guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored 21 points of his own, while 23-year-old guard Dyson Daniels tallied 18 points, 13 rebounds, eight offensive boards, four assists, two steals, and a block.
As a result, the Hawks improved to 23-11 since trading Young on Jan. 9. During that time, Atlanta has defeated the likes of the Boston Celtics, Denver Nuggets, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers, and Phoenix Suns. Each of those teams is sitting comfortably above .500.
Atlanta has taken its game to an entirely new level over the past month and change, winning 14 of a possible 15 games and ranking No. 2 in the NBA in net rating at +14.4.
With a new core in place and intriguing developable talent in 20-year-old forward Zaccharie Risacher, 23-year-old forward Jonathan Kuminga, and 25-year-old big man Onyeka Okongwu, the Hawks are in a fascinating position. They're already competing at a high level and still haven't learned what their players' true potential actually looks like or how it may manifest.
What's known, however, is that the Hawks are finally back at .500 and surging toward escaping mediocrity altogether with a new core in place.
