There's plenty of avenues the Atlanta Hawks could take navigating this crucial offseason, and while many initially believed they wouldn't engage in any wild trade discussions, recent reports may suggest otherwise. There seems to be a common sentiment around the league that Jaylen Brown will eventually end up in his hometown.
According to a recent report from Marc Stein of The Stein Line, the Hawks, among other teams, have "legitimate trade interest” in Boston's star forward. Stein has been a reliable source for Hawks news for several seasons now, and there's no reason to believe he's letting this information be known without purpose.
Brown and Atlanta have been linked to each other since the beginning
Even throughout his incredible run with the Celtics, which could certainly still be unfinished, people haven't shied away from expressing their interest in a homecoming. The former Finals MVP is coming off of the best season of his career, and he'll certainly have a wide range of suitors if Boston ultimately decides to go a different direction.
It's heavily implied that Atlanta would be a strong potential destination due to their undeniable ascension in the Eastern Conference. They've got a brilliant young core, along with stable veterans who are capable of leading their franchise to the promised land.

Knowing that, it's not difficult to see why many are suggesting they stay the course. They're in a rare position of flexibility and leverage, meaning that no matter what, they'll be able to make a calculated and reasonable decision. A move for a star like Brown would come at a significant cost, but there's always the possibility that he's the true missing piece as they aim for contention.
This doesn't mean much has changed in their approach, however, as testing the waters in today's NBA is never a poor idea.
Brown is one of the few stars who could truly be on the Hawks' radar
He's a player worth moving significant capital for. Yes, bringing him in would come with certain limitations, but at some point Atlanta's front office will have to reach for the stars. The biggest prevention of a deal for him would be his contract, and reasonably so.
After next season concludes, he's set to make over $60 million in each of the two seasons that follow. For a short period of time after signing the extension he's currently on, he was the highest-paid player in NBA history.
The unfortunate reality, though, is that franchises must spend in order to truly compete in today's ever-changing league landscape. If Atlanta were to bring Jaylen Brown home, fans would have every reason to welcome him into this new era, but it would absolutely come with sacrifice.
