The Atlanta Hawks have spent the better part of the past four seasons at the heart of endless trade rumors. The players at the heart of those talks have varied, but one of the most consistently mentioned names has been multi-time All-Star Trae Young.

The most recent rumor pertaining to Young was that the San Antonio Spurs considered trading for him before ultimately landing on De'Aaron Fox in 2025.

This was far from the first time that Young had been linked to the Spurs in trade rumors. In 2024, Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports reported that San Antonio had been mentioned around the NBA as a potential destination for the 26-year-old point guard.

In a post that fans instantly knew the reason for, the Hawks shared a video of Young and Spurs star Victor Wembanyama expressing their excitement to play together.

The rumors linking Young to San Antonio have been widespread since Wembanyama's arrival, and this post is likely to stoke the flames—even if it's only meant to poke fun at the reports.

Young is one of the most dynamic and productive point guards of his generation, if not all time. He's currently averaging 23.7 points, 11.5 assists, 3.2 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 2.9 three-point field goals made on .407/.336/.857 shooting.

Those numbers are in line with his career marks of 25.3 points, 9.7 assists, 3.5 rebounds, 1.0 steal, and 2.6 three-point field goals made.

Young also has quite a feather in his cap having led the Hawks to the 2021 Eastern Conference Finals. Unfortunately, Atlanta has made two postseason appearances since then, each time losing in the first round after barely avoiding a below-.500 regular season.

Those results have inevitably resulted in the rumors that Young could be looking for a way out—and that San Antonio could pair him with their superstar big.

Wembanyama is already one of the most remarkable players to ever grace the NBA. The 7'3" Goliath has become a dominant force on the defensive end of the floor, as well as a vastly and instantly improved player on offense.

Thus far in 2024-25, Wembanyama is averaging 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 1.8 offensive boards, 3.7 assists, 3.8 blocks, 1.1 steals, and 3.1 three-point field goals made per game.

The issue in San Antonio, however, had been the lack of a point guard who could create offense for Wembanyama while playing along a similar timeline. It addressed that flaw by trading for Fox, but Young was an understandable target.

Young and Wembanyama have already added fuel to the fire with their play at the All-Star Game.

Thankfully for the Hawks, the Young and Wembanyama pairing will remain reserved for All-Star Game festivities.
