All-Star Jalen has arrived.

Amidst a turbulent season, Hawks fans were delighted to hear that fifth-year forward Jalen Johnson would represent their team at the 2026 NBA All-Star Tournament. After trading away Trae Young, it was relieving to see that the league believes they’re still in good hands.

It’s always difficult parting ways with a franchise player, but when a successor as intriguing as Jalen Johnson is waiting for an opportunity to shine, the transition instantly becomes much easier. He’s developed from a high-end role player to a superstar in no time.

In his breakout season, so far, he’s been undeniable. On the year, he’s averaging 23.2 points, 10.6 rebounds and 8.2 assists per game on 50.2% from the field and 35.3% from three. Adding him to the list of the USA’s most elite players was a no-brainer.

With the selection already in the bag, the goal was clear: Jalen Johnson needed to prove he belonged. Not that it wasn’t already known by people who watch the game regularly, but the average fan may not have been introduced to Atlanta’s young star yet.

#1 left them no choice...

Team USA Stars, one of three competing rosters in the tournament, was who Jalen Johnson would play for in the 2026 NBA All-Star Tournament. They were set to take on Team World, headlined by Nikola Jokic and Victor Wembanyama, in the first matchup of the day.

Johnson came off the bench in each game that was played. Still, he made sure his impact was felt right from the jump. Upon checking in to the first game, he shifted momentum and led a run. Team Stars won their first matchup 37-35, with Johnson scoring 4 points on 2/3 from the field in just 7 minutes.

Being winners of the first game, Team Stars would remain on the floor to instantly turn around and take on Team USA Stripes. They didn't let fatigue catch up to them, as they fought hard and almost secured their second-straight victory.

While losing their second matchup wasn't ideal, it didn't ruin their chances at advancing to the final. Also, despite the loss, Jalen Johnson had an even better game, racking up 5 points, 2 steals, a rebound and an assist.

An appearance in the final game was fully dependent on the outcome of the third matchup of the day: Team Stripes vs. Team World. Well, a historic performance from LA's own Kawhi Leonard powered the Stripes to a victory, advancing them to the championship to take on Team Stars.

USA vs. USA for all the marbles. It was set to be a fun one. Team Stars got off to about as hot a start as one could imagine, leading 12-1 after the first two minutes. Even with Johnson on the bench, it was clear they weren't planning on letting up.

When he checked in, they kept it going. Johnson immediately knocked down a triple upon entering, helping Team Stars extend their impressive lead. There was never a doubt. Johnson and his team soared to a championship victory. He finished the final game with 5 points and 3 rebounds on 2/4 from the field.

As a first-time NBA All-Star, Jalen Johnson had about as perfect of a night as possible. Now, it's up to him to make sure he carries this well-earned momentum into the back half of the season, as the Atlanta Hawks make a push for the playoffs.
