Looming Zaccharie Risacher revenge game could make Hawks look silly

Will Risacher be able to turn the page to begin a better chapter?

Zaccharie Risacher's tenure in Atlanta wasn't exactly what fans hoped it would be after selecting the French phenom first overall in the 2024 NBA Draft.

That said, Risacher seems to be turning over a new leaf in Dallas already - coach Dusty May has placed his trust in Zacch early on, starting the youngster in both of Dallas' preseason bouts to start the year.

The Mavs have a special opponent on the schedule this Friday - after two solid performances, Risacher has a chance to exact vengeance on the Hawks - the very same organization that gave up on him this summer.

What a big night against Atlanta would mean for Risacher

The NBA isn't all about innate ability, dedication to craft, or even putting everything together on the court in the physical sense.

As famous Detroit Pistons forward Rasheed Wallace once said,

“The NBA is 95% mental and 5% physical.”

Such a saying couldn't apply to anyone more than Risacher, whose talents on the hardwood are undeniable - and yet, it hasn't consistently translated to success.

With two solid performances under his belt as a starter for Coach May in Dallas, nothing would round out the preseason better for Zacch than a big night against his former teammates.

In Atlanta, Zacch’s performances were marked with highs and lows. It's exactly what led to his early departure - Coach Snyder simply didn't feel comfortable entrusting a large role to such an inconsistent player (I can't blame him either).

With Coach May placing his trust in Zacch, all lights are green for Risacher, especially with his innate archetype being such a prominent feature of May’s system.

Zacch’s potential chemistry with Dallas’ lengthy forward crew

It's no secret that Coach May values length and versatility above (nearly) all else as a coach. During his time with Michigan, May gave ample burn to forwards Yaxel Lendeborg and Morez Johnson Jr. (the latter of which joins May again this year as a Maverick).

Now, May can feature Morez, Cooper Flagg, PJ Washington and Zaccharie Risacher as an elite, versatile forward foursome to stimy opposing offenses night in and night out.

Risacher breaking out for the Mavericks wouldn't be ideal for the Hawks, especially if the newly acquired Lu Dort doesn't pan out the way Onsi Saleh imagined this season.

Look for Zacch to have a big evening against Atlanta this Friday. Though he's no longer a Hawk, I'll always be rooting for the French youngster to put it all together and carve out the large role he's more than capable of filling in the NBA - even if Atlanta misses out on the fun.
