Nickeil Alexander-Walker is turning in a phenomenal debut season with the Atlanta Hawks. The seven-year veteran has more than doubled his scoring average from a season ago, emerging as an unexpected full-time starter and top-tier source of supplementary offense.
Though Alexander-Walker has played well throughout the 2025-26 season, he's taken his game to an entirely new level over the past month.
Alexander-Walker entered March averaging 19.8 points on .431/.373/.888 shooting. Those are more than respectable numbers, but his efficiency has gone through the roof since Mar. 1 and given the Hawks a new outlook on what the postseason may hold.
Since May 1, Alexander-Walker is averaging 22.7 points on .528/.468/.942 shooting—on 7.4 three-point field goal attempts per game, no less.
Among players who appeared in at least 10 games in March, only three converted with more efficiency from beyond the arc than Alexander-Walker. Darius Garland was the only player who shot better than Alexander-Walker while attempting at least 7.0 treys per game.
Among players who averaged at least 20.0 points per game in March, only two posted a better eFG% than Alexander-Walker: Jalen Duren and Zion Williamson.
Nickeil Alexander-Walker shot with elite volume and efficiency in March
For perspective on how remarkable that fact is, Duren and Williamson combined to attempt zero three-point field goals in March. Alexander-Walker, meanwhile, attempted 111—and yet, was on a level of efficiency that mirrored two players who predominantly operate around the rim.
At the most important time of the regular season, when teams are making their final push for postseason seeding, Alexander-Walker has made a gigantic leap from an efficiency perspective.
Alexander-Walker's late-season surge has given the Hawks every reason to believe they can make noise in the playoffs. He may not maintain the same level of efficiency, but even something within the current range would give Atlanta a prolific scoring option who continues to thrive on defense.
The fact that Alexander-Walker is improving his output now of all times also offers reason to believe the two-time Conference Finalist can be exactly who Atlanta signed him to be in the playoffs.
Atlanta isn't just playing well, with 16 wins in its past 18 games. It's fighting to climb its way up the Eastern Conference standings and avoid the Play-In Tournament. With the pressure mounting and the Hawks entering March at 30-31, Alexander-Walker turned in his best month of the season.
With Alexander-Walker seemingly tapping into a new level of his potential, the Hawks will now hope April can produce even more significant results.
