Hawks' Clint Capela needs to improve his efficiency

While this may appear to be a strange improvement for a player who shot the ball at 57.2% from the floor last season. However, Capela had a down season in 2023-24, as it was his worst shooting season since his rookie year. He led the league at 65.3% during the 2017-18 season with the Houston Rockets.

However, it is more than that. During the 2020-21 season he led the league with 14.3 rebounds in just over 30.1 minutes per game. Compare that to last season where he averaged 10.6 rebounds in 25.8 minutes per game. This is a significant drop off in his averages and it is all coming from the defensive end.

It is not just the raw numbers that show that Capela has fallen away. When he led the league in rebounding, he collected 34.3% of all the defensive rebounds while he was on the floor. That was when he also had the rebounding prowess of John Collins on the floor with him. Last season, he only had 26.5% of all the defensive rebounds on the floor.

Capela was off a little bit in most aspects of his game last season. If he can get some of this back, then the Hawks are going to be in a better place. It is a contract year for Capela so hopefully he can run it back and help take the Hawks back into a long playoff run next season.
