Hawks vs. Blazers NBA expert prediction and odds for Wednesday, March 13 (Bet the UNDER)
By Peter Dewey
The Atlanta Hawks are ravaged by injuries right now, as the team is already without Trae Young and just lost Saddiq Bey for the season due to a torn ACL.
The team still has a 3.5-game cushion on the No. 10 seed in the East, but the team isn’t going to go too far in the postseason if it ends up in the No. 10 spot.
Luckily, the Hawks have a chance to pick up a road win against the lowly Portland Trail Blazers, who are banged up themselves and have won just three of their last 10 matchups. Portland was blown out by the Boston Celtics on Monday night.
Can the Hawks, who are the worst team in the NBA against the spread this season, cover on Wednesday?

Hawks vs. Blazers key players to watch
Atlanta Hawks
De’Andre Hunter: With Bey out for the season, Hunter is going to need to step up for the Hawks down the stretch of this season. The former first-round pick is averaging 15.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 47.6 percent from the field and 41.9 percent from 3.
Portland Trail Blazers
Anfernee Simons: One of the few healthy players for Portland, Simons has played well since the team returned from the All-Star break, averaging 22.0 points and 5.9 assists per game over his last 10 matchups. He should be able to score pretty easily against a Hawks team that is just 26th in the league in defensive rating this season.
Hawks vs. Blazers prediction and pick
Atlanta’s against the spread struggles are well documented, as the team is just 22-42 ATS overall in the 2023-24 campaign.
However, Portland hasn’t exactly been great as a home underdog, covering the spread just 12 times in 27 games. That puts us in a tricky spot in this one when attempting to bet on a side.
Instead, I’m going to take a look at the total and bet the UNDER in this game.
In Portland’s 33 home games, the team has hit the UNDER 17 times, and the Hawks have hit the UNDER more often on the road (16-14) in the 2023-24 campaign.
While these trends aren’t huge, these teams are missing several rotation plates on both sides, which means points aren’t going to be as easy to come by on Wednesday night.
Plus, the Blazers have been one of the worst scoring teams in the league all season, ranking 28th in points per game at 108.
Atlanta’s offense has been far from elite without Young, scoring 103 or fewer points in four of its last six games. Don’t be shocked if this turns into a rock fight between two injured teams.
