Pistons vs. Hawks prediction and odds for Monday, Dec. 18 (Bet the Over in the ATL)
By Jovan Alford
The Hawks return home Monday night to face the struggling Pistons after completing a quick three-game road trip. Atlanta has dropped six out of their last seven games, including their past two home games against the Nuggets and Nets.
Despite their recent struggles, Atlanta is an 11.5-point favorite against Detroit, who are 1-12 on the road this season. Tonight's game should be a tremendous matchup between two good point guards Cade Cunningham and Trae Young.
Here are the odds and our best bet for Atlanta-Detroit:

Pistons vs. Hawks key players to watch
Detroit Pistons
Cade Cunningham: Cunningham is coming off a solid performance against the Bucks over the weekend. The young point guard scored 25 points and dished out six assists in the 32-point loss to Milwaukee. Cunningham’s play has been one of the lone bright spots this season on a dismal Pistons team. The former No. 1 overall pick has scored 20 or more points in four out of his last five games.
Atlanta Hawks
Trae Young: The star point guard had his third consecutive 35-plus point performance against the Cavaliers on Saturday night. Young had 35 points (11-21 FG, 7-12 3pt), 10 assists, and four rebounds in the eight-point road loss. The 25-year-old point guard is averaging 31.5 points and 11.3 assists per game this month. Young is also shooting 48.2% from the field and 44.4% from three-point range.
Pistons vs. Hawks prediction and pick
Even though Atlanta has dropped six out of their past games and has multiple guys on the injury report, they still have enough to defeat the Pistons, whose losing streak is now at 23 games.
During this seven-game stretch, the Hawks are allowing 123.7 and scoring 120.3 points per game. They are also a disappointing 1-6 against the spread.
However, the good news for the Hawks is that they are facing a Detroit squad that struggles on defense (119.7 DRtg, 26th in the NBA) and can’t score points (108.3 ppg, 28th in the NBA).
Also, the Pistons play at the sixth-fastest pace in the NBA this season (100.6), which benefits Young and this Atlanta team, which is ranked fourth in scoring (122.4 ppg) and fifth in pace (101.5).
With that in mind, I’ll take the OVER as the last time these two teams played each other in November, the total points scored were 246. The OVER has hit in eight out of 13 road games for Detroit and hit in eight out of 10 home games for Atlanta.
