Heat add depth from Hawks, Warriors in 3-team proposed trade

Butler’s future in Miami has been the subject of speculation. He is in Year 2 of a three-year, $146.4 million contract but, like Young, has a player option for the final season of the deal and can become an unrestricted free agent in 2025.

That leaves Miami in a tricky position of committing a large sum of money to the 35-year-old star or plan for life after his departure.

This deal would at least do that by volume.

“Bam Adebayo is not exactly a perfect candidate to be the No. 1 offensive option, but the Heat would be surrounding him with an extremely deep roster,” Raman wrote. “Miami could certainly take a step back, but they would have tons of two-way talent under a coach in Erik Spoelstra that has shown he can maximize the most out of gifted rotaton players.”

The drawbacks are that the Heat would not have a clear-cut superstar and are arguably getting the worst draft pick of the three going out.

Even though it is unprotected, the Warriors should still be decent in 2024-25.

Kuminga has two-way star potential and Hunter has proven to be a solid if unspectacular role player when he is healthy. Bogdanovic and Moody are somewhat redundant and could require a subsequent move to make this make sense for the Heat.

Larsson, the No. 44 overall pick of the draft cannot be traded until December 15, making this an in-season deal the likes of which are rare.

It could take both teams being in the basement for this to even be considered.

The Heat shave just $24,000 from their bottom line and would be thrown into a state of limbo the organization has done well to avoid under team president Pat Riley. That trend figures to continue even after Butler’s tenure comes to an end.

Grade – C+: The chances the Heat land a proven star for the aging Butler seems low, so banking on the upside of players like Kuminga and Moody and even Hunter as well as their track record of player development could be the smart play.
