The Atlanta Hawks need to make a major splash in the offseason. They had a major boost in that department when they lucked out and won the NBA draft lottery. However, inserting the No. 1 pick into this lineup is not going to be a cure-all. The Hawks need to break up their current back court of Dejounte Murray and Trae Young. The experiement has simply not worked.

So, in order to do this, the Hawks need to have a running mate for Young. The question is, why does this need to come from outside the franchise? During the Hawks' run to within two games of the NBA Finals a few seasons ago, Young and Bogdan Bogdanovic were one of the best offensive backcourts in the league.

In order to facilitate this, the Hawks need to find a player that ticks a number of boxes. They need to be able to create for themselves and others while also adding to the Hawks' ability to rebound, which is something that Murray has been solid in his entire career. One potential answer to this is none other than Josh Giddey from the OKC Thunder.

Why would the Atlanta Hawks look to Josh Giddey as a player in their future?

To put it simply, the Hawks need to make a major move or else they risk wasting another couple of years for Young's prime. While he is locked up for three more years, the Hawks need to show him that they are willing to put the right pieces around him.

There are a few options for the Hawks if they want to make this trade. However, the best more for the franchise would be to send Murray to the Thunder as he will offer them their best chance at decent return that could help their future prospects. Realistically the Hawks are not going to contend for a few seasons and they need to plan accordingly.
