The Atlanta Hawks could make any of these trades and not miss a beat.

Hawks trade pitch rescues veteran from tanking team

Finney-Smith could be more palatable if the Hawks deem Dort too ambitious of a target, especially trying to pry him loose from a winning situation.

“This won't be the last time DFS appears as a target. The Nets have little need of the veteran combo forward as they steer hard into what might be a multiyear tank,” Hughes wrote. “If Atlanta isn't comfortable with Zaccharie Risacher and De'Andre Hunter checking tough opposing wings (which it shouldn't be), Finney-Smith could help.”

Dre to BK

Finney-Smith, 31, is older than the 25-year-old Dort.

He is also a bigger player at 6-foot-7 compared to Dort who is listed at 6-foot-4. That fits into the Hawks’ ethos of length around Trae Young. Dort does have a 6-foot-8 wingspan to help him overcome that.

Finney-Smith has also been a better shooter in his career, though that has not shown over the past two seasons. It could also take more just to get such a useful player without the prospects.

Divesting Hunter’s contract is a good idea on paper.

The problem is that the Hawks have but one roster spot and already have 15 players with guaranteed contracts. While Fields said the roster is a work in progress, other solutions exist besides creating more of a log jam.

Still, this version would keep the Hawks from parting with Bogdanovic just like in the first proposal while also taking fliers on a pair of young bigs in Day’Ron Sharpe and Jalen Wilson.
