The Atlanta Hawks held media day on Monday, and Quin Snyder revealed details of a meeting between he and Trae Young last week. The details of what the two spoke on should serve to excite fans of the team.

According to FanSided's own Brad Rowland, Snyder said that he wants to set the bar for Young high, and that the key word for Trae is "efficiency." Quin also expressed Young's desire to continue improving.

"He wants to get better every year," Snyder said. "The word that I like to use with Trae all the time is evolution. To me, his leadership is about him being efficient and doing things on the court that help our team win."

I would imagine this is precisely what Hawks fans were hoping to hear on media day. There have been plenty of fans in Atlanta to critique Trae's stretches of ball dominance and sometimes questionable shot selection. The emphasis on efficiency expressed here indicates that making better reads and being more selective on what shots to take is going to be an emphasis going forward.

Snyder told the fanbase what they wanted to hear

What this kind of approach will do in theory is allow this increasingly talented supporting cast to shine in their own unique ways, and likely reduce overall offensive stagnation. By publicly saying that Trae is focusing on helping the team win, Snyder is setting the expectation that Young will make increasingly smart plays and move off the ball where necessary.

Again, this aligns with what a large portion of the fan base has been asking for. Making efficiency one of the focuses for your best player essentially sets a high standard. Should Young adhere to this vision, that means that his turnovers, shot selection, and defensive effort will all be more fine-tuned than before.

I believe this is a very smart goal for a guy who has already shown us year after year the kind of top-tier offensive engine he can be at his best. What Trae has to work with right now is likely the best supporting cast of his entire career with a plethora of lengthy wings and defensive weapons positioned all around him. Taking on this kind of mentality is only going to maximize not only his individual output but the Hawks' as a team.

It's also good for fans to know that Snyder and Young have been in communications on this. They clearly share a similar vision headed into this year with such high expectations. Should they carry out the plan they're describing here, there's plenty of reason to think it can be a dream season in Atlanta.
