August is a time that fans dread.
The driest part of the NBA offseason, free agency news runs thin, and players who are still available for the taking are forced to sit back and watch. The only issue, though, is that there isn't a ton to watch for. League rosters, for the most part, are full.
It doesn't mean the remaining players just won't find a home, because if they're talented enough, they will. There are still a wide variety of proven players yet to land with an organization, and talks could last all the way up to the final buzzer of the summer.
For Gabe Vincent - the former Heat, Lakers and Hawks guard - that could very well be the case.
Vincent was heavily linked to his former team, until he wasn't
It kind of just... quieted down.
Following the acquisition of two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, several veterans expected to sign cheap deals in this year's free agency period were linked to the Miami Heat.
As soon as the offseason hit, there wasn't much smoke connecting Vincent to his most recent squad - the Atlanta Hawks.
They made their intentions crystal clear when they brought in three new point guard additions - Kingston Flemings, Devin Carter and Ryan Nembhard.
Vincent wasn't going to return to the organization that traded for him just before last season's trade deadline. Like the one he was traded for, he was on an expiring deal. It was a low-risk addition that brought draft capital to Atlanta. It was never a long-term guard fix.
Still, Vincent provided some sneakily impactful minutes during his short tenure with the Hawks. The young roster grew very fond of his veteran presence - one that's been a major theme over the last few years of his career.
He'll provide a steady bench option to wherever he ends up signing
It could still very well be the Heat.
They certainly don't have much available room, but they could use any depth help they could get.
One of their most glaring issues heading into the 2026-27 season, where they'll almost certainly have title aspirations, is their lack of talent and continuity behind the starters.
Vincent, while having his own on-court limitations, has no shortage of organizational familiarity, and would undoubtedly give Miami a boost.
If Atlanta wasn't so focused on youth, they would've likely looked to bring him back. Now, another squad will be landing his underrated services.
It's just a matter of when.
