Apparently there’s no need for the Atlanta Hawks to announce their draft pick tonight because the consensus among several mocks is they will choose international prospect Dario Saric with the 15th-overall selection.
The folks at Sports Illustrated, DraftExpress and SB Nation all have the Hawks nabbing the 6’10” Turkish forward, despite the recent news of Saric signing a deal with Anadolu Efes, which means he’ll remain overseas for at least the next two years.
The Hawks have a history of drafting international players in General Manager Danny Ferry’s two-year tenure running the helm as Spanish center Lucas Nogueira and German point guard Dennis Schroder were both first-round selections of Atlanta last season.
Schroder spent his rookie season in the U.S. playing for the Hawks and their Development League affiliate, Bakersfield Jam, while Nogueira spent the year stashed away overseas.
If Atlanta, or which ever team, drafts Saric tonight it will solely be as a stand-and-dash pick for the future.
