Smaller Moves

Lamar Patterson and Terran Petteway were both signed to partially guaranteed contracts which are essentially invitations to training camp. The signing of Richardson gives the Hawks 17 players currently under contract, so that means Patterson and Petteway likely will not make the roster.

So those signings in reality mean nothing and will have no impact on the 2015-2016 Atlanta Hawks.

They also will bring 2014 second round pick Edy Tavares to Atlanta this season. Tavares is a 7-foot-3 center with a terrifying 7-foot-9 wingspan. He has all the physical tools to become a beast down low. It will take some time but the Hawks front office must be salivating at the thought of him racking up 20 rebound, 5 block games while also becoming a finishing machine in the pick and roll.

In the NBA Summer League he averaged 7.2 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game, showing a glimpse of that impressive skillset. Don’t expect much of an impact this season, though. 2015-2016 should be all about Tavares learning from Splitter and Horford. He is the future for Atlanta, but he still needs some seasoning.
