There are several types of shooting guards. There is the typical, go-to guy elite scorer, like MJ. There’s a shooting specialist like Ray Allen, or there’s a lockdown defender type like Tony Allen. The type that gets the most recognition are the elite scorers and the elite shooters.
In today’s NBA, the shooting guard position has seen a sudden drop-off. Other than James Harden and Klay Thompson, there seems to be a dearth of elite shooting guards. The game has been taken over by point guards and small forwards. Of course, these things are cyclical. The top three are significantly better than the rest of the list. Disagree with our choices? Feel free to leave your selections for the top five shooting guards in Atlanta Hawks history in the comments section.
