The Bad

Schroder drew the ire of Hawks fans at times this season for his erratic play.

While Schroder is a gifted scorer, he was often very wild and disrupted the flow of the offense. His offensive rating was just 103 for the season and he had a 6.3-to-3.3 assist-to-turnover ratio this season.

More from Hawks News

He is not a traditional floor general and the offense was not as free-flowing as it had shown a tendency to be in past seasons. Schroder tried to play hero ball in several instances this season and it ended poorly for the Hawks. He also had many moments where bad decision-making led to horrible turnovers.

Schroder’s jump shot was also inconsistent for most of the season. He shot 34.0 percent from three-point range. That figure is not horrible but it is nice to have better perimeter shooting than that from the point guard spot.

On defense, Schroder was also less than spectacular. His length and quickness give him the tools to be a good defender in the NBA but he struggled on that end. He averaged less than one steal per game and had a defensive rating of 109. He was too often beaten off of the dribble and lacked discipline on the defensive end.

That is a good way to describe Schroder’s shortcomings this season. He was undisciplined. Growing pains were expected for a guy that was just becoming a full-time starting point guard and that is exactly what the Hawks got from Schroder.
