Today brings sad, yet expected, Hawks news. As we’ve known all season, Paul Millsap will not opt into his player option for next season. Millsap will instead hit the open market as a free agent. Millsap is sure to be coveted and the Hawks may have to give him a maximum contract to keep him. Of course, that decision won’t be made for another month and a half.

Hamidou Diallo offers high risk, high reward for Atlanta Hawks

Kentucky’s Hamidou Diallo is one of the most interesting prospects in the NBA Draft. Diallo didn’t play a single game at Kentucky after enrolling early in January 2017. Still, his off the charts athleticism has NBA teams seriously considering taking him in the first round. If he elects to stay in the draft, and is available at pick No. 31, the Hawks should take him.

Shams Charania of The Vertical reports that Paul Millsap has decided to become a free agent this summer. It would seem that Millsap has interest in returning to Atlanta, but he will likely have several suitors on the free agent market. The Hawks might have to offer him a max contract to keep him.
