Feeling At Home In The Pepsi Center

The Hawks avoided a winless West Coast road trip by beating the Denver Nuggets 110-97. This is the 3rd straight win for Atlanta in the Pepsi Center and snaps a 4-game losing streak. Atlanta improves their record to 11-30, and Mike Budenholzer picks up his 200th career win as a head coach.

More from Soaring Down South

Dennis Schröder led the way with a double-double scoring 19 points and dishing out 10 assists. Taurean Prince and Kent Bazemore proved to be shooting threats by scoring a combined 30 points. Dewayne Dedmon made his presence known as well, scoring 9 points and grabbing 9 boards in only 18 minutes.

Atlanta’s defense did give up some three-point shots, but made things tough on Nikola Jokic, who finished a putrid 4 of 21 from the field with only 9 points. Gary Harris had the hot hand of the night for Denver but it was to no avail as the rest of the Nuggets shot 27-81 from the field.

Strong Start In The First Half

To begin the game, Denver jumped out to a seven point lead until Prince nailed 3 long balls to put the Hawks on top. From there, Atlanta never looked back. The Nuggets did make a run to start the 2nd quarter, but Schröder and Bazemore hit some key buckets to keep the Hawks in the lead going into halftime.

Rookie John Collins finished with 8 points including this highlight alley-oop jam.

Winning The 4th Quarter

The frontcourt for the Hawks struggled for 3 quarters giving up points in the paint, even to the guards. In the 4th quarter, the big men were able to lock down the paint. Ersan Ilyasova ignited the Hawks surge with a 3-pointer early to put them up 85-78.

Malcolm Delaney and Marco Belinelli each finished with 10 off the bench. Mike Muscala finished with 9 of his own including a corner 3 that proved to be the dagger.

Plumlee vs. Plumlee

Miles Plumlee couldn’t better his brother Mason. The Denver brother won the stats sheet outscoring his Hawk brother 9-5 and 5-4 on rebounds. However, Miles did have some highlight plays as he rocked the rim on two occasions.
