While the Atlanta Hawks shake off the rust from a lengthy All-Star break, the Erie BayHawks continue to fight for a divisional title in the NBA’s G-League.

Two-Way player Andrew White III had a strong NBA debut with 15 points against the Detroit Pistons just before the All-Star break.

White was called up Feb. 11th along with Josh Magette before being sent back to the BayHawks on Saturday.

White and Magette’s absence in Erie showed.

Before being called up to the big club, Magette hit a game winning jumper against Greensboro. John Gillon filled his role along with Craig Sword.

Wednesday Night, Erie couldn’t shake Raptors 905 as Malcolm Miller had a monster game with 28 points and 8 rebounds.

On Friday night, The BayHawks snapped the Windy City Bulls 4-game winning streak winning 117-107.

Saturday night, Erie returned home but couldn’t stop a late charge, as Canton completed a come- from-behind victory 102-100.

News and Notes

  • After scoring over 20 ppg last week, Raphiael Putney has cooled off scoring only 13 ppg this week. His rebounding stayed in single digits with the exception of a 16-rebound performance against Canton.
  • Jordan Matthews scored 23 points off the bench in the loss to Raptors 905, but has been used sparingly since only playing 9 minutes Saturday night.
  • Jeremy Evans’ scoring production has been solid. However, he’s gone cold from 3PT range by shooting 1-8 from behind the arc.
  • Andrew White picked up where he left off in his BayHawks return Saturday night, scoring 18 points off the bench.
  • Josh Magette only had 8 points but notched 10 assists and 3 steals in his Erie return.
  • After a single-digit scoring outing Wednesday night, Craig Sword got back on track with 12 points against Windy City, and 17 in the loss to Canton.
  • Trades in the G-League do happen: The BayHawks traded Jeremy Wise to the Reno Bighorns in a 3-way trade where they acquired the original 4th round pick of the Delaware 87ers.

What’s next for the BayHawks?

Wednesday night, The Greensboro Swarm come to Erie Life Insurance Arena. Marcus Paige and Damien Wilkins were thorns in the side of the BayHawks defense on Feb. 10th.

Friday, it will be a chance for Erie to gain some breathing room as they host division rival Lakeland. The BayHawks are one game ahead of the Magic for the Southeast Division lead and hold a 2-1 lead in the season series.
