Atlanta Hawks 2018 Draft Pick Profile: Luka Doncic
By Chris Guest
We have written at length about Luka Doncic before, and we still feel that he would be a terrific fit on the Hawks (especially considering how unlikely it is that Ayton will fall to Atlanta).
Coach Bud will probably leave for another team, and it is likely the team will try to move on from Dennis Schröder via trade in the offseason or at the trade deadline.
With those two moves made, Doncic would be set up as the crown prince of the Hawks (even though Taurean Prince, The Prince That Was Promised, will likely still be on the roster). And even though Prince provided some impressive scoring eruptions after the All-Star Break as one of the best players on the Hawks, Doncic would have a clear path to becoming one of the greatest Hawks in history given the right mix of talent around him.
Clearly, Doncic is best with the ball in his hands, and he is already leading a juggernaut Real Madrid team in the Euroleague against the second-best basketball competition in the world.
Though not an electrifying, quick-twitch athlete, the pluses of Doncic’s game are his virtuosic basketball IQ and stunning feel for the game. Doncic could start the year as the Hawks’ primary ballhandler and immediately have a profound effect on the offensive end.
Though his ceiling might not be as high as some of the other prospects in this draft, his floor is already sky-high and he projects to be one of the best bets in the draft in terms of immediate production.

With knockdown shooters like Kent Bazemore, Taurean Prince and Tyler Dorsey and skilled big men such as hopeful All-Rookie First Team member John Collins surrounding Doncic, the Hawks would immediately have upgraded their offensive to a tremendous degree – after finishing 26th in offensive rating in 2017-18.
