There’s few positives to take away from a 146-115 Atlanta Hawks drubbing at the hands of the young Sacramento Kings.

On the heels of a blowout to the formerly win-less Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday, the Atlanta Hawks fell flat against the visiting Kings at State Farm Arena.

De’Aaron Fox had the game of his life, notching the first triple-double of his young career on 31 points, 15 assists, and 10 rebounds (all career highs). Between him and backcourt mate Buddy Hield, the Kings rolled to their fifth win in a row.

The Hawks’ first quarter looked like a music video to the Red Hot Chili Peppers song “Give It Away.” Their fingers coated with butter, the home team lost 7 turnovers in the first 8 minutes of the game. Not exactly a recipe for success.

And that disinterest in holding on to the basketball was a theme for the entire night — with 22 turnovers in all escaping the grasp of Atlanta Hawks ballhandlers.

The Kings came in with their up-tempo offense and imposed their will in the transition game. Taking advantage of the turnovers, they filled lanes and used tremendous passing to create open looks both in the paint and beyond the arc.

Despite all the giveaways, the Hawks had to have felt good about going into the locker room after that first half–they trailed just 69-64.
