Rapid Reactions to the Atlanta Hawks losing 110-103 to a Steph Curry-less Golden State Warriors team.
After the intense drama that preceded the game, involving Draymond Green and Kevin Durant — leading to a suspension for Green, that left the Warriors without two of their 4 superstars against the Atlanta Hawks (Stephen Curry was already out due to injury), the Hawks played an entertaining game that showed why you should watch this team whenever you can.
Listen, I know it’s a tanking year and we’ll probably lose a lot of games but Trae Young looks like a generational passer. Yeah his shooting has been just plain bad so far this season (28% from 3, 0-5 from deep tonight) but the way he finds cutters and throws lobs is just awesome and I can’t wait to see him grow into his powers.
As for Omari Spellman and Kevin Huerter, the other rookies on this team, both made little impact on the floor tonight, which is to be expected. Not everyone can break out every single game.
Taurean Waller-Prince had quite a nice night, going for 22 4 and 4 on a solid 8-14 from the field. Prince does get a little ball-hoggy at times and it can transform the Hawks from one of the faster teams in the NBA into a half-court slog.
Vince Carter continues to turn back the clock for the Atlanta Hawks as he scored 11 points in 17 minutes tonight and thankfully, he really does look like he’s having fun down there on the court, even if he knows his chances of getting a ring are probably none.
By the way, as if you didn’t know, KD is a ridiculous human being and shouldn’t be able to shoot and dribble as well as he does in such an alien-like frame. He consistently attacked Jeremy Lin in the post and finished with 28 6 and 3 assists, despite a canny charge/flop from Lin, which prompted some wry smiles from both parties:
Lin continues his comeback tour, putting up 10 3 and 4 assists while looking more and more like a competent NBA point guard. Hopefully his trade value will continue to increase as the year goes on.
As the losses keep piling up for the Atlanta Hawks, Zion Williamson continues to look like he’s from a different planet and I’m already dreaming of the lobs from Trae to Williamson that are going to light up State Farm Arena.
All in all, it was a fun game for the Atlanta Hawks and ultimately we got what we wanted, a hard-fought loss that brings us closer and closer to that beautiful #1 draft pick.
