Trae Young Shooting Struggles Continue

Ice Trae continued to struggle in tonight’s matchup against the 76ers. Obviously, the Sixers are one of the better defenses in the league and normally cause trouble for most guards.

However, Trae Young often struggles because of his shot selection at times. He finished tonight’s game with 18 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds off of 5 out of 12 (41.7) shooting. Yes, the 2018 draft pick continues to put up solid numbers but his shot selection needs to improve.

Toward the end of the fourth quarter, Pierce decided to go with Lin who has continued to play well when given the chance. Young is clearly the future of this franchise but he needs to understand that he can impact a game without focusing on scoring.

The 6-foot-2 guard is at his best when he is attacking the lane, drawing two defenders and kicking the ball out to an open teammate. Obviously, he should be looking to score but pulling up from three before running the offense is unnecessary.

Tonight, Young hoisted up eight three-point attempts which is not the end of the world. But opting for a three-pointer before running the offense or on the fast break isn’t always the best basketball play.

Similar to Stephen Curry, Young has the ability to dish out beautiful assists, and get his teammates involved. In addition to his assists, he can move without the basketball and score off of a catch and shoot situation.

Again, Young is a rookie and the season is still young (no pun intended) but the fact that he has Kevin Huerter in the backcourt helps.
