Atlanta Hawks: Trae Young Thinks Atlanta Will Be Free Agent Destination
By Chris Guest
Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks believes the team should be a free agent destination as soon as this offseason.
In less than a full season, Trae Young has changed the culture of the Atlanta Hawks. While John Collins was a terrific player last year, he is something of a dependent talent insofar as he cannot consistently produce his own offense – other than through putbacks or rolling to the rim for easy lobs or layups.
Even in those scenarios, JC must rely on savvy ballhandlers to provide him the ball in the right position to score. Last year, Collins was let down by a dearth of good passers to let him truly feast in the paint.

This year, Trae Young, one of the best passers in the NBA already, is spoon-feeding JC some easy buckets with his preternatural court vision. (Of course, Collins is one of the best finishers in the league as a big man, but the point still holds).
In a far-reaching interview with Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype, Ice Trae delved into numerous topics about his season, his career so far as well as the comparisons between himself and Stephen Curry as well as himself and Luka Doncic.
“I know Luka and I are going to be connected and talked about together until the end of our careers just because we were traded for each other,” Young said in the HoopsHype interview. “And I get the Steph comparison all the time, ever since college. I’ve heard it all and I’m used to it. I know how to handle it by now.”
An even more notable quote came from Young regarding Atlanta being a free agent destination this offseason:
“Oh, I definitely think this is going to be a big spot that free agents look at,” Young said in the interview. “I mean, we’re a very young team, but we’ve been playing really well lately and this is an exciting team and an exciting city. I think we’re maybe one or two pieces away from really making that jump and taking off. I definitely think this is an attractive city [and situation]. And I’m not a tampering guy or anything like that, but I think I’m a good recruiter – for sure.”
Clearly, Trae Young has boundless confidence, and he believes his excellent play, a unified front office and coaching staff as well as numerous draft assets going forward means the Atlanta Hawks could land a big-name free agent.
